About Park Junior School

‘The nurturing skills of all teachers are just as important as their excellent teaching skills.’

Park Junior School is a school for children aged 7-11 and is situated in Wellingborough’s town centre. The school is two form entry and currently has 241 year 3 to 6 children. Our main feeder Infant School, The Avenue Infant School, is located close by. At present, 17% of our children presently qualify for free school meals, 25% are registered as pupil premium and 45% of our pupils are from minority ethnic families with 29% of pupils’ first language believed not to be English. We are therefore a very diverse school both in terms of need and socio economic backgrounds.

In addition to the main school, we have a SEN Unit for Social, Emotional and Behavioural needs and children from all over North Northamptonshire can be referred to this provision. We also support schools in working with these children in their main stream situation. The aim of this unit is to enable all the children on its role to be supported to integrate successfully into their home school community. This unit has been graded as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

In our most recent Ofsted inspection in February 2013, we were recognised as a good school with an outstanding grade for behaviour, safety and the social, moral, cultural and spiritual provision. The school vision of ‘Together We Make a Difference’ encompasses all that we do and our work with stakeholders and the local community has been highly recognised. The care and nurture of our children into well rounded, well skilled and independent individuals, able to thrive in the local community now and in the future, is a strong ethos of the school. The curriculum has three embedded themes of emotional awareness, community and diversity to encourage and support the development of our children.

The school enjoys a rich history being located in a Victorian building and has been a Junior School since 1968. The infrastructure is being continually adapted to meet the needs of a diverse and vibrant modern curriculum and we also have a particular emphasis on our IT resourcing to meet the needs of today’s continual developments in the world of computing and optimise our children’s learning in this important curriculum area.

At Park Junior, a great focus is given to the provision of extra-curricular clubs with an impressive number of clubs available to children across the school. We believe this provision enables our children to lead a healthy life, full of new experiences and this provision has been recognised as a great strength of the school. Our sports provision is also important to the ethos of the school with every child being encouraged to take part in a variety of sports whether in lessons, in clubs or through competitive opportunities.
